Cheap Weenies

A local player had asked me yesterday about a list for a budget white weenie list.  And by this I mean regular old weenies.  No Quests, no Puresteels, no Tempered Steels.  Regular old weenies.  Come to think of it, I don't believe you can find much in the archetype at the moment, so I agreed to write up a list.  Instead of a passed along note, I thought I'd share my list with all my followers out there.  Without any further ado, I give you my cheap weenie.

That's what she said.

Creatures (32)

  • 4 Elite Vanguard
  • 4 Student of Warfare
  • 4 Accorder Paladin
  • 4 Kazandu Blademaster
  • 4 Kor Skyfisher
  • 4 Leonin Skyhunter
  • 4 Mirran Crusader
  • 4 Porcelain Legionnaire
Other (7)
  • 4 Honor of the Pure
  • 3 Brave the Elements
Lands (21)
  • 4 Tectonic Edge
  • 17 Plains
Basically, this deck curves out at three for Mirran Crusader. Drop HotP early against red deck to keep most of your dudes out of pyroclasm range, don't forget you can leave mana up for BtE, and win.  Even with 32 creatures, you'll still find it tough to bounce back from a wrath though, so try not to overextend.  You don't want a single Black Sun for 2 to ruin your day.  Six power of dudes is all you'll need at a time, 8 for U/W.  six lets you wipe a titan and put your opponent on a three turn count.  8 is enough to turn a Gideon into a five mana fog.

When using tec edge against non-valakut opponents, remember what they need for sweepers.  U/W needs WW and UB needs BB, meaning that it's easy to disrupt their lands to save your board.  Some UB lists also pack Life's Finale, a great way to stop Twin or Valakut decks as well as kill those pesky Mirran Crusaders and hawks, but six mana for the sweeper means that if you can keep them off land number six, that's all you should need for a lethal turn.  And if your opponent still has the BSZ, you can still just refill the board with those dudes I told you to hold back.  After all, if he's stuck on five lands, that means he won't be countering anything anytime soon.  Remember to cast the best creature first to play around Mindbreak Trap on the off chance that he has it, though that goes more for UW than UB.

Remember to follow me on facebook and twitter for more decks, updates, and news on all things magic.  This was yo mama, and it is WAY past your bedtime.

  1. What do you think about Hada Freeblade in place of Elite Vanguard? Vanguard is still fodder for pyroclasm even with a honor the pure out.

  2. Two power out of the gate lets you trade or beat through cards like Goblin Guide or Vampire Lacerator, your two rivals on the cheap beats front. A 1/2 by himself is not only horrible to draw after the first turn of the game, but is also unable to match the power of all the 2/2 beaters flying around the format. That's why I prefer Vanguard over the ally subtheme.
