The Post-Christmas-Post

I know, it's been a bit since I've updated the website at all, but the holidays always tend to make me lose track of my priorities, with all the new goodies to play with.  As I type this, looking at my brand-new 23 inch widescreen monitor, munching on leftover candy from my stocking and running the new Golden Sun game on my DS in the background, I can say for sure that I'm fine with the lack of product this Christmas.  But for many Magic players out there, there's a whole lot of unwrapping going on after all the presents are over.  And with that, the local meta will see some shifts.

Thinking about: Token Spam

Today's TA isn't really about a specific card, but more of a group of cards that could produce an interesting deck.  But I'm not talking about aggro with cards like Kutholda Rebirth, nor am I talking about Three-Way Titan recycling.  No, today I'm talking about the classic token colors: Green and White.

Tournament Report: TCGPlayer.com Qualifier- Toys N' Games Type 2

So today I'm heading to the tournament with a group of local FNM players, the qualifier is less than an hour from our store.  I'm playing Super Shock, Austin Ruthermund is playing WW Quest, Chase Genge is running Valakut, Josh Windsor is using Goblins, and Andrew Kwiatkowski is using Caw-Go.

Deck Tech: Super Shock

Super Shock is a deck that initially came about when a friend of mine, pro tour veteran Bryan Haak first came to  us with his Vampire deck-the one that turned heads during his feature match at a SCG Open in Boston, the one that put vampires back on the map.  At the time, the deck was still in it's roughest stages, and ran some cards that never made it into the build we see today.  However, the deck still ran Dark Tutelage.  When we were talking back and forth about builds, I pointed out that the deck was weak to early disruption.  At the time, a Pyroclasm on the third turn was pretty much game, not like it is now.  However, I brought up using red as a focus, using a burn package instead of the vampires and running four copies of Finkel 2.0.  He liked the idea, and I set to work, building what I called Super Shock for running every shock effect in the format: Forked Bolt, Lightning Bolt, Galvanic Blast, and Burst Lightning.  And Super Shock was born.

Happy Birthday to Me

Having a birthday this close to Christmas is absolutely horrible.  Even if people remember it, it's only for the fact that it's close to Christmas.  And since gifts will be coming in barely over a week afterward anyways, I'll get slim to nothing.  Not to mention that as a younger kid, having a birthday in the dead of winter with the biggest holiday of the year being a week away, it's hard as hell to populate a birthday party.

Thinking about: Hellcarver Demon

Now, this guy has seen casual play in non-standard formats for the ability to combo off with Doomsday.  However, he has absolutely no use in competitive play due to the fact that he's extremely vulnerable to removal of any non-Terror kind.  If you manage to resolve him and successfully damage your opponent in a deck thinned out by combo pieces, you should have easily been able to beat them with any other deck.  However, something funny has been recently brought to my attention and I can see a deck with it doing well at FNM on occasion.

WHE Games

I just wanted to take a moment to mention the folks at WHE Games, a card game startup I didn't know about either until a few days ago.  They showed up at the store I play my FNMs at to demo one of their upcoming products, Obsessions for Murder.  It was a great game, reportedly similar to Mafia although I haven't played it myself, and everyone involved had a good time.

Thinking about: Triskelion.

Triskelion is definitely an overlooked creature, and for obvious reasons.  Well, one reason: mana cost.  Six for a 4/4 in this format is just pathetic, and so is six mana for a bolt and a 1/1 creature.  Right now, it's all about the seven titans, each a 6/6 for 6.  However, I definitely see a future for this guy.  And it came from U/W block.

Welcome to YMG

Oh wow, you're actually reading this. Crap, I should probably start being all professional and stuff... oh man, I screwed up already. Well, I guess I'll have to take a mulligan on this one, but I'm not scooping just yet.

Hey, I'm Bowie and this is the brand-new official page for Yo Mama: the Gathering. YM:G is... well, this. This little site is my corner of the internet, where I pay tribute to the game I love to play. Here, I'll be posting decklists and concepts I've been working on, tournament reports for everything from FNMs and saturday box splits to SCG opens, states/regionals and whatever else I happen to enter. Also, I like to play around with horrible deck concepts, like say 3+ card combos or jank interactions, so if you're looking for something fun to play around with in Type 2 or looking to take an out-of-the-blue Tier 3 deck to FNM, or even if you're a new player trying to put something together with nothing more than a couple draft pools, you're going to find what you're looking for here at Your Mom Games.

Tonight, I feel like going a more serious route, with a B/w control deck I like to call Carlton Banks, because... well, you know. Much like the character in Fresh Prince of Bel Air, this deck appears black at first, but once you spend a few turns on the other side of him/it you start to realize that he's/it's acting pretty white.
